It’s finally here! Newly published by Ten Speed Press is The Tablehopper’s Guide to Dining and Drinking in San Francisco: Find the Right Spot for Every Occasion.

Here’s what Bruce Cole, editor and publisher of Edible San Francisco has to say: “Redefining what a city guide should be…Marcia Gagliardi’s first book has to be the hippest, on-the-money, and smartest guide to eating out in San Francisco ever published.”

You ready to buy? Of course I’d love for you to support your local bookseller. tablehopper has a special relationship with Green Apple Books, and you can always go through IndieBound and buy from an independently owned business near you. If you have to go through Amazon, here’s your link.

The New Year’s celebrations continue: chef/owner Hoss Zaré of Zaré at Fly Trap is introducing the first Persian New Year’s celebration in San Francisco. On Monday March 15th through Wednesday March 17th, the restaurant will host a New Year’s celebration with communal tables and traditional symbolic dishes served family style.

Chef Zaré will recreate the traditional haft-sin table and serve modern renditions of typical Persian cuisine, reinterpreting traditional New Year’s dishes to reflect modern tastes. A sample of some of the dishes from the five-course menu includes:

Ash é reshteh: winter greens with organic beans, root vegetables
Herb kuku: herb omelet with roasted garlic and sumac yogurt
Frogs legs fessenjoon with pomegranate walnut sauce
Thai snapper with fennel, winter vegetables, and Persian pickle tartar
Bell pepper dolma
Maast é keysehe: yogurt panna cotta
Persian tea and cookies

(The celebration will extend over a two-week period, as it does in Iran, with nightly specials and traditional noodle soup; the noodles symbolizing a life free from worry.)

Persian New Year is the largest celebration in Iran and one that is celebrated multilaterally across all religions and cultures. Falling on March 21st, at the precise moment of the vernal equinox, the holiday originally marked the end of winter and the beginning of a new growing season. In Iran it marks the beginning of two weeks of holidays and festivities and is celebrated with a multi-course meal and elaborate decorations centered around the haft-sin table, or “Table of the Seven Ss,” so-called because seven of the traditional items begin with s.

Monday Mar 15, 2010 – Wednesday Mar 17, 2010
6:30pm reception, 7:30pm dinner
$56 per person (unlimited paired wines: $30)

On Monday February 22nd, Meatpaper is hosting East Meats West II at Bar Tartine. Here’s more from the Meatpaper announcement: “You might have heard about our exciting November events in Brooklyn with our friends at Diner and Diner Journal. We collaborated to produce an amazing rabbit feast, and now, the Diner folks are flying west for a rabbit redux so you, too, can taste the magic!

“Chefs Chris Kronner of Bar Tartine in San Francisco and Sean Rembold of Diner in Brooklyn team up to create a four-course dinner featuring Devil’s Gulch rabbits. There will be signature cocktails and wine pairings. A portion of the proceeds will go toward the Pasternak’s fund to help the community in Haiti that they serve.”

Some sample dishes on the menu include: Andante Pecorino Dungeness Crab Salad (baby nagoya and white peacock kale; watermelon radishes; chopped Soul Food Farm egg; buttermilk dressing) and Breakfast for Dinner (fried Tartine brioche; sautéed rabbit livers; “hollandaise sauce”). You can check out the entire menu here. There will also be live music.

There are two seatings on February 22nd at 6pm and 9pm. $100.
