Macy’s Union Square has two August Cellar Events coming up, part of a four-part series. One is San Francisco Culinary History with GraceAnn Walden: The Fillmore District Old and New with Chef David Lawrence of 1300 on Fillmore, on Wednesday, August 13th, at 6pm. In a short talk, food maven, GraceAnn Walden will talk about the history of San Francisco’s Fillmore District and the transformation it has gone through in the last few years. Celebrate San Francisco’s rich jazz history while chef David Lawrence of restaurant 1300 on Fillmore prepares one of his delicious dishes. Enjoy a taste of the featured recipe, a glass of wine compliments of the Jug Shop, and neighborhood history from GraceAnn.

Then on Tuesday, August 26th, at 6:30pm is Home Run with Slow Food Nation and Acme Chophouse. Come to the Cellar for a sneak preview of Slow Food Nation, the largest celebration of American food in history, which kicks off Friday August 29th at Civic Center and Fort Mason and goes through Labor Day weekend. Meet the creators of Slow Food Nation’s book, “Come to the Table: The Slow Food Way of Living”, and buy a copy already signed by Alice Waters. The book profiles a dozen small farmers in California dedicated to growing food that’s healthy for people and the planet. This evening’s event will bring one chapter to life with Dan Bagley and Liz Cunninghame, the husband-and-wife team who own and operate Clark Summit Farm, a sustainable beef, pork and poultry producer in Marin County. Executive Chef Thom Fox, who brings baseball and sustainability together every night at Acme Chophouse, situated adjacent to PacBell Park, will prepare choice cuts of meat from Clark Summit farm. Come have a taste, hear their story and talk with Slow Food Nation organizers and the Acme chefs about how to enjoy and support a sustainable food system!
