Amtrak Coast Starlight®, California Zephyr®, San Joaquin®, and Capitol Corridor® trains transport passengers to the Emeryville station where they board an Amtrak Thruway Motorcoach for a short ride over the Bay Bridge into San Francisco. Stops include the Ferry Building, Pier 39/Fisherman’s Wharf, Moscone Center, Westfield San Francisco Center, Financial District, and others.

The Coast Starlight and California Zephyr are two of the country’s most celebrated long distance trains, traveling routes steeped in history and incredible scenery. The Coast Starlight travels from Los Angeles to Seattle offering spectacular views of California’s Pacific Coast and the wonders of the Cascade mountain range in the Pacific Northwest. The California Zephyr crosses the Great Plains, the Rocky Mountains, and the Sierra Nevada enroute to San Francisco from Chicago via Denver and Reno. Both trains are full service, featuring reclining coach seating, a variety of private room accommodations, dining car, and a Sightseer Lounge Car where you can take in the view with the car’s large floor to ceiling windows.

If you’re traveling to San Francisco from the San Joaquin Valley or Southern California, Amtrak San Joaquin service travels five times daily to the San Francisco Bay Area via Fresno and Stockton. Amtrak Capitol Corridor service offers up to 32 trains running between Sacramento and the Bay Area giving you the freedom to select a train to match your schedule. Both services feature coach seating and a café car offering hot entrees, sandwiches, snacks, and beverages. San Joaquin schedules allow for a day trip to Yosemite National Park via Merced, while Capitol Corridor schedules allow for great day trips to San Jose or to Napa and the richness of the Wine Country.

Amtrak offers discounted rail fares for children and seniors. Up to two kids, ages 2-15, travel at half price for each adult rail fare purchased, while Seniors 62 and over travel at 15% off the lowest available rail fare.
