As part of their mission, The Barber Lounge is committed to full, general recycling. This San Francisco salon recycles all hair color foils in addition to collecting cut hair for use as either compost or for matteroftrust.org. Matter of Trust partners with salons and uses hair clippings swept off their floors to create “hair mats.” Woven into these mats, hair is an efficient and abundant material for collecting and containing petroleum oil spills. The salon is also the first salon in San Francisco to use solar power. It is in process of adhering 4000 Watts of Solar Panels to the Salon roof and routing to a power inverter that takes the solar power and converts to AC house power. The installation simply plugs into the salon’s existing electrical system. The solar electric system will generate 28% of the salon’s energy using the Sun’s rays for the next 30 years without any moving parts. As a team, all Barber Lounge employees recently walked as part of San Francisco’s Earth Day celebration. “The environment has always been very important to me,” says Barber Lounge owner Greg Griffin. “When I opened my salon I kept the environment and our carbon footprint in mind. We use Aveda products and they have a “cradle to cradle” mission statement meaning all their products are sustainable and safe for the environment from the bottle to the drain. It’s becoming increasingly more important for business’s to be mindful of how they impact the world we live in.”

Bikes are available to guests who are interested in exploring the property and surrounding areas, which means the car can stay parked until check-out. The property also offers eco destination weddings in a 3,500 square-foot barn-like venue with locally sourced food; the resort’s wedding planner will work with the couple to incorporate additional green initiatives such as recycling, composting and donations to local charities.

Designed with relaxation in mind, the Mount View Hotel & Spa is eco-friendly and a long term member of the “Green Hotels Association.” We are always looking for new ways to reduce our carbon foot print on the environment. We have installed a “Hydration Station” to minimize the use of plastic bottles by offering biodegradable corn plastic cups and glass decanters to fill at the filtered ice & water system.
The Mount View Spa is using Ana Kiri, a certified organic product line, and wears Renewable Bamboo shirts as their daily uniform. Our Housekeeping staff uses only Eco-friendly cleaning and laundry products. Throughout our remodel we have used Eco-friendly Benjamin Moore paints and other renewable building materials wherever possible.
All guestrooms and common areas have their own recycling bins. All rooms feature low flow water conserving toilets and showerheads. All of our rooms have signage to help us in our “green” initiatives. We give them the option to take advantage of our Linen & towel Reuse program as well as conserving energy by turning off their AC units and requesting our front desk to turn it back on before they return to their room to maintain their desired comfort level. We try to save energy in any way we can. All lights feature compact florescent light bulbs. When it comes to business, we purchase green business supplies including paper, staplers, paperclips, etc.
Come to the Mount View Hotel & Spa and relax, we are “Green and Serene.”
