Amanda Williams: Bless Your Lil' Heart
Museum

Amanda Williams will bear her heart, literally and figuratively, for all of San Francisco and its visitors. Williams is one of six artists exclusively selected by the San Francisco General Hospital Foundation for the fourth installation of the Hearts in San Francisco project. Williams will put her own artistic touch on a 400-pound, fiberglass heart sculpture, which will be displayed San Francisco's Union Square. Williams' rendering involves transferring a faded black and white photo of her Aunt Betty and Aunt Sylvia, shown as toddlers, which serves as the pulse of her heart, onto a backdrop of a series of red-layered glazes and drips. Excerpts from a handwritten letter penned by Aunt Betty will also be transferred before it is emblazoned with a high gloss finish. Time: Monday-Sunday 6:00am-12:00am

Small Press Spotlight on Briana Miller
Museum

Briana Miller is a Berkeley-born, East Bay resident who has lived in almost every city that touches the eastern side of the San Francisco Bay. Each of Miller's comics is a self-contained story with no recurring characters or story lines. Her stories are often a mixture of whimsy and loss that becomes magical realism in unexpected moments of comic-book maturity. The opening reception will be held on Thursday, August 21 from 7:00pm to 9:00pm.Time: Tuesday-Sunday 11:00am-5:00pm

Girl Who "Wed" Another Girl: Pre-1950 Gay, Lesbian and Transgender Marriages in the United States
LGBT

Most San Franciscans are aware of the recent California Supreme Court decision allowing same sex couples to wed legally. What Bay Area residents may not know is that many gay, lesbian and transgender couples wed in the United States prior to 1950. This exhibit draws attention to several anatomically-same sex California couples who married and lived as husband and wife in defiance of legal and social conventions. Time: Monday 10:00am-6:00pm, Tuesday-Thursday 9:00am-8:00pm, Friday 12:00pm-6:00pm, Saturday 10:00am-6:00pm, Sunday 12:00pm-5:00pm
